Building a Foundation for a Bright Future

Every student develops in their own way, with unique strengths, interests, and ways of understanding the world. Montessori education recognizes that individuality by creating environments designed to foster each student’s cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development.

From Infant through Elementary, our programs provide a thoughtfully connected Montessori journey that nurtures independence, curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning at every stage of growth.

The Infant Environment

Offered in Farmington Hills, Ann Arbor, and Canton

The Beginning of Independence

Our Infant environment is thoughtfully designed to support each child's earliest development through movement, exploration, and meaningful connection. With soft natural light, carefully prepared spaces, low shelves, and freedom of movement, infants are encouraged to discover the world around them at their own pace within a calm and nurturing environment.

Movement, Language & Trust

From the earliest days, infants build foundational skills through attentive care, responsive interactions, music, stories, and opportunities for exploration. Consistent routines around feeding, sleeping, and care provide a sense of security while supporting growing confidence, curiosity, and independence.

A Day Designed Around Each Child

Each infant's unique needs and developmental pace are supported. Throughout the day, children engage in purposeful movement, sensory exploration, outdoor experiences, and meaningful interactions with their guides in an environment designed to support their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

The Toddler Community

Offered in Farmington Hills, Ann Arbor, and Canton

Growing Independence Through Exploration

Between eighteen months and three years, children experience remarkable growth in language, movement, and independence. Our Toddler environment is thoughtfully designed to support this important stage of development, encouraging exploration, confidence, and a growing sense of capability.

Practical Life as the Foundation

Through purposeful activities such as pouring, sweeping, food preparation, caring for plants, and other everyday tasks, toddlers develop concentration, coordination, and independence. These meaningful experiences help children build confidence while discovering the joy of contributing to their surroundings.

Language & Discovery

Toddlers expand their language through conversation, observation, and hands-on exploration of the world around them. They are introduced to precise vocabulary, including the names of objects, plants, animals, geographic concepts, and more. Opportunities for self-care and grace and courtesy support growing independence and social awareness.

The Primary Classroom

Offered in Farmington Hills, Ann Arbor, and Canton

Developing Independence, Concentration & Confidence

The Primary years are a transformative period of growth, as students build independence, deepen concentration, and develop a growing understanding of themselves and the world around them. Within a three-year mixed-age Montessori classroom, younger students learn through observation and older students strengthen their own understanding through leadership and mentorship.

The Five Areas of Montessori Learning

Students explore five interconnected areas of the Montessori curriculum: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Culture (including science, geography, history, and an exploration of the world around them). Through carefully designed materials and hands-on experiences, students develop coordination, problem-solving skills, foundational academic knowledge, and the ability to work with purpose and independence.

The Kindergarten Year

The final year of Primary is a culminating year of confidence, leadership, and growing mastery. Students synthesize years of exploration and discovery as they deepen their academic skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and their understanding of the world around them while stepping into roles as leaders and mentors for younger classmates.

Elementary students at Montessori Academies of Michigan

6 – 10 Years

The Elementary Experience

Offered in Farmington Hills

Imagination, Reasoning & Discovery

The Elementary years are a time of imagination, reasoning, and the powerful question of “why?” Students are eager to explore deeper connections between ideas, and Montessori encourages this curiosity through Cosmic Education — a way of learning that helps children see how subjects connect, understand the world around them, and discover their place within it.

From Wonder to Understanding

Through the Great Lessons, students are introduced to the universe, the development of life on Earth, human history, and the development of language and mathematics. These foundational stories spark curiosity and provide a framework for students to ask meaningful questions, pursue research, and discover connections across subjects.

Exploration Beyond the Classroom

Elementary students extend their learning beyond the classroom through purposeful experiences that encourage research, planning, and engagement with the wider world. Visits to museums, libraries, and enrichment experiences allow students to apply their learning, practice independence, and develop collaboration and social responsibility.

Across All Levels

The Montessori Curriculum

Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Culture — the foundational areas of Montessori learning — are woven throughout our Infant, Toddler, Primary, and Elementary programs. These interconnected areas support exploration, independence, and confident, self-directed learning at every stage of a child’s Montessori journey.
