Curriculum
“Our work as adults does not consist in teaching, but in helping the infant mind in its work of development”.
Maria Montessori
Our Toddler room provides your child with a caring and nurturing environment. In our Montessori Toddler Room we aspire to meet the needs of each child and at some time we emphasize movement, play, manipulation, story time, music, sign language and exploration. Children are free to choose a work and proceed at their own pace. The children enjoy the sense of freedom within a secure classroom of daily routines.
The toddler room curriculum is well thought out and includes:
- Language: they practice sound, rhyming words & puzzles
- Socialization: they begin social membership with their peers.
- Practical life: care of the person, environment, and using the bathroom independently.
- Functional Independence: beginning and completing work cycles.
- Movement: large & small motor skills
- Grace & Courtesy: living in a community with others
Language is an important growth area for toddlers which changes each day in their ability to express themselves, everyday is exciting and new to a toddler. The toddler room is designed to be a transition into our Montessori Primary #1 classroom.
Pre-primary Room #1
In our Pre-Primary #1 classroom, most of the children are transitioned from our toddler room and new 3-year-old children. We follow each child closely. This classroom helps the children to prepare for the Pre-Primary #2 classroom.
In this room, we focus on practical life & sensorial skills which enables them to develop their concentration and eye their eye-hand coordination skills. As children develop these skills we introduce them to language, math, cultural studies, science & art. Children really enjoy one-on-one attention, which helps them to develop their self-confidence.
Preprimary #2
In our Preprimary #2 Classroom we have mixed ages from 3 to 6 years. There is great sense of community within our Montessori Classroom, where children of different ages work together in an atmosphere of cooperation instead of competitiveness. There is respect for the environment and for the individuals within it, which comes through experience of freedom within the classroom. The prepared environment, scientifically designed to support the sensitive period of the child is one of the main goal of teachers from which the child learns as she/he works at her/his own individual pace.
A Montessori Summer Camp for children toddler to 7 yrs old
The summer program follows the principles and philosophy developed by Dr. Maria Montessori.
The “Montessori Method” was seen by Dr. Montessori as “…..simply an assist to life”: Children build their will and take responsibility for themselves, as they choose their own “work” or activity and follow through. They learn to be independent and think and do for themselves.
“ Our care of the child should be governed, not by the desire to make him learn things, but by the endeavor always to keep burning within him that light which is called intelligence. ” – Maria Montessori
Academics
We will continue the Montessori Academics during the summer camp. We will have a different themes every week.
Because the daily activities of the classroom encourage and enhance the development of social skills, the child learns to respect others and to be respected. The child will practice art/craft mediums to explore and create, a “house” for role play etc.
Swimming
There is a big pool out back to cool off in during those hot and not so hot Summer days. We have a certified swimming instructor who gives swim lessons. (all children wear GHMS floatation devices). In the afternoon there is nap-time for those who need it, story telling, snacks, art projects and free play inside/outside. Play time outside includes riding toys, T-ball, soccer goal and ball, teeter totter, slide, bubbles and much more! All these outdoor activities are done on a large grassy area fit for running, riding and playing of any kind.
On top of this all special activities are offered: gymnastics, puppet shows, music lessons, and movement on music.
Children staying in after care might again go to the pool. Indoors: free play, art project, story telling, snack. When children attend Green House Montessori’s “A Summer To Grow On” they will be in a nurturing environment where they have the freedom to learn and explore. And best of all they will have a great time every day!!
